Moon sign calculator

Find your Moon sign.

Your Moon sign is the emotional core a sun-sign horoscope never reaches. Enter your birth date — and your time and place if the Moon was near a sign change — to find it, computed in your browser.

Computed in your browser with the VSOP87 planetary theory — nothing you enter leaves this page. The app draws your full chart from the same planetary data NASA uses, to a fraction of an arcsecond.

What your Moon sign is

The Moon governs your inner life — instinct, mood, what makes you feel safe. It is the fastest-moving body in the chart, sweeping through all twelve signs in roughly a month, so two people born the same week can have very different Moon signs. That speed is exactly why it says something your Sun sign can't: your emotional default, not your public identity.

Sun sign vs Moon sign

Think of the Sun as who you are becoming and the Moon as who you already are when no one is watching. A confident Leo Sun with a guarded Scorpio Moon reads very differently from a Leo Sun with an easy Sagittarius Moon. Reading them together is where a chart starts to feel accurate — see how they sit alongside your rising sign in the full birth chart calculator.

When the time really matters

Because the Moon changes sign every couple of days, roughly one birthday in three lands near a boundary. If yours does, the calculator above won't pick a side without your birth time and place — it will tell you it's a cusp day and ask for them. The Moon phases guide explains the other half of the lunar story: not just the sign, but the light.

Moon sign FAQ

Questions about the Moon.

Can I find my Moon sign without a birth time?

Often, but not always. The Moon moves fast — it changes sign every two to two-and-a-half days — so on most days your birth date alone pins it down. When you were born on a day the Moon crossed into a new sign, this calculator says so and asks for your time and place instead of guessing.

What does my Moon sign mean?

Where your Sun sign is your identity, your Moon sign is your emotional weather — how you feel, comfort yourself, and react before you think. It is often the placement people recognise most once they read it. The signs guide covers what each Moon sign tends to need.

Why do I need my birth place?

Your birth place sets the time zone, which converts your local birth time to the universal time the calculation actually uses. On a day the Moon is near a sign boundary, that conversion can decide which sign it lands in — so adding your place makes the result exact.

How accurate is it?

The Moon position uses a high-accuracy lunar model, precise to about an arcminute. The StarBind app refines it further with NASA-grade Swiss Ephemeris data and reads your Moon against the rest of your chart.
